Government/Economics
Mrs. Mitchell
Government--Course Objectives:  Students will pursue a deeper understanding of the institutions of American government.  They will compare systems of government in the world today and analyze the changing Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the current state of the legislative, executive, and judiciary branches of government.  Students will also analyze the relationship among federal, state, and local governments, with a particular emphasis on historical documents.  These standards represent the culmination of civic literacy as students prepare to vote, participate in community activities, and assume the responsibilities of citizenship.
Economics--Course Objectives:  Students will master fundamental economic concepts, applying the tools (graphs, statistics, equations) from other subject areas to the understanding of operations and institutions of economic systems.  Studied in an historic context are the basic economic principles of micro-and macroeconomics, international economics, comparative economic systems, measurement, and methods.

Expectations:  These classes are taught at a senior level with the expectation that students will come to class prepared to participate appropriately,  with all materials ready and homework complete.

The state guidelines provide the outline for material covered.  Both classes are required for graduation.  Golden State Tests, provided by the state will be administered in both classes.

Homework will be given on a regular basis.  Two current events will be due each week, on Tuesday and Thursday.  These should be gathered from the internet or newspaper and written in the form seen here.  Other homework will include reading, studying and projects.

Our community service requirement is 10 hours per semester for seniors.  Forms are available in the classroom.
